Slushy driving conditions along Vancouver Island highways

Drive B.C. reported a number of slushy and slippery sections on Vancouver Island highways overnight as snow fell on the island.

The slippery spots were first reported on the Drive B.C. website just after 1:00 am, with large sections of highway 19 affected as far as 25 kilometres north of Campbell River.

Slippery conditions were reported on Highway 28 in both directions over a 40 kilometre stretch from Buttle Narrows to Campbell River.

Slushy spots were found on Highway 4 and 4A from Port Albertni to the Highway 19 junction.

The Malahat had to be closed around 12:30 am due to multiple vehicle incidents, heavy snow and limited visibility.

Both directions were reopened just after 1:30 am.
