For the first time in over two years, skippers have returned to the waters off Vancouver Island to partake in the 77th Swiftsure International Yacht Race.

This year’s race features 120 boats and over 1,300 participants on the seas, with the youngest racer participating this year being just four years old racing alongside her parents.

Skippers have sailed to Vancouver Island from New Zealand, Mexico, and the U.S.A. coast to spend some time in the Capital Region and compete in Saturday’s races.

Some of the shorter races will only take the afternoon to complete while the longer courses are expected to last overnight, depending on the weather.

The 77th Swiftsure International Yacht Race is being dedicated to Bill Conconi, who was the chairman of the event for 17 consecutive years and has since passed away.
