The public is invited to form human chains around two Vancouver Island mosques Friday in a show of solidarity.

Victoria’s Sikh community will be at the Masjid Al Iman mosque at 12:45 p.m. until around 3 p.m. at 2218 Quadra Street.

The Cedar United Church will be at the Nanaimo Islamic Centre at 897 Harbourview Street from 1:15 p.m. to 2:30.

“We will be doing this as a show of love and solidarity with our Muslim family and to remind everyone that bigotry will not be tolerated,” said Sikhtoria, the group organizing Victoria’s event.

“This human shield will be a physical barrier of protection for those feeling persecuted and vulnerable following the horrors in New Zealand last week.”

The public is welcome to join both events.

On March 15 a suspected white supremacist stormed two New Zealand Mosque and shot and killed 50 people.

The incident is one of the worst mass-shootings in Commonwealth history.
