A group of Legendary Sikh Riders set off on a three-week, two-wheeled adventure to the east coast and back to raise money for children, at Mile Zero in Victoria on Saturday.
“We’re old-timers, we’ve been up to Alaska, we’ve been to Sturgess. So we said look we’re already at one end so let’s go across Canada and instead of burning tires and fuel let’s have a cause for it, let’s have a reason so we said let’s do a charity run,” said Road captain Malkiat Singh Hoonjan.
The charity of choice is the Make-a-Wish Foundation which makes dreams come true for sick children. It was a choice they made after recently taking a similar ride from Vancouver to the Kamloops Residential school to show their support for Indigenous people.
“And what happened was we got really emotional and connected with that and we said we want to do something for the children,” said Hoonjan. “In our clubhouse meeting we decided to do a road trip across Canada in 2020 but due to COVID-19, everything was put on hold. When 2021 rolled around we were looking forward to riding again. We thought we should do one for a purpose.”
The riders say all donations will be distributed in the province where they were collected in granting wishes to children with critical illnesses across the country.
