Several roads in Victoria will be closed as runners lace up their shoes for a marathon this weekend.

Roads in Victoria’s Inner Harbour and all of Dallas Road and through the Fairfield neighbourhood will be closed Sunday, Oct. 10 for the Royal Victoria Marathon, according to a release from Victoria Police.

The race will feature a half-marathon and an eight-kilometre run for participants this year instead of the traditional marathon, according to the event’s website. VicPD says the roads for the routes will be closed from very early in the day.

A breakdown of the closed roads is below:

  • Belleville Street between Oswego and Government streets (12 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Dallas Road between Cook Street and Ogden Point (4 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
  • Menzies Street between Belleville and Superior streets (3 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
  • Belleville, Pendray, Quebec, Montreal, Kingston, St. Lawrence and Erie streets at Dallas Road (7 a.m. to
  • Beacon Hill Park including Park Boulevard and Heywood Way
  • Cook Street from Chapman Street to Dallas Road
  • Ross Bay Cemetary to Fairfield Road (9:50 a.m. to noon)
  • Fairfield Road to Quamichan Street (9:55 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)

VicPd says traffic and parking along the route will be “disrupted” during the closures. They say they will also be monitoring the event on Sunday.

“Our officers will be working to help minimize traffic disruptions and keep those participating in the races safe,” said a press release Friday.
