Shirley Delicious Cafe in Shirley was one of three Vancouver Island restaurants mentioned on Yelp's 2023

The results are in and a trio of Vancouver Island restaurants are serving up success, kicking off a new year by ranking high on a nationwide list.

The business-review website Yelp just released its “Top Places to Eat in Canada 2023” list and, to the foodie’s delight, three Island restaurants, all in the Capital Region, scored in the Top 100.

Shirley Delicious Cafe in Shirley ranked 19th, as Fishhook and Jam Cafe, both located in downtown Victoria, ranked 31st and 55th, respectively.

After seeking public feedback, Yelp says it selected restaurants based on ratings, number of reviews and volume of submissions before further curating the list with help from its community managers to finalize the results.

Located at 2794 Sheringham Point Rd. near Sooke, Shirley Delicious is nestled in the woods and dubs itself a little cafe serving fresh baked goods, brunch, lunch, coffee and treats.

Clearly reeling in rave reviews, Fishhook found at 805 Fort St. is an Indian-French fusion restaurant focused on sustainable local seafood, while Jam Cafe at 542 Herald St. offers all-day breakfast and comfort food amid rustic decor.

“The resulting list is collaborative and passion driven — an accurate reflection of the Yelp Community itself,” according to Yelp in a news release Wednesday.

It’s the eighth year the directory website has shared such rankings, and it notes that featured spots are located from coast to coast, with Vancouver’s own The Northern Cafe and Grill claiming number one.

Along with B.C., restaurants in all provinces except for Saskatchewan, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador made the list. No restaurants in Canada’s territories were mentioned.

“Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or an upscale dining experience, there’s something for everyone on this year’s list which celebrates the diverse tastes of Canada,” added Yelp.
