A sentencing date has been set for one of the inmates who escaped from the William Head Institution in Metchosin last July.

James Lee Busch, 42, will be sentenced March 17 at Western Communities Provincial Court in Colwood on two counts of escape from lawful custody.

Busch and 30-year-old Zachary Armitage were the subjects of a massive search on July 8, 2019.

The two men failed to show up for the headcount at William Head, a minimum-security prison, in Metchosin the night before.

Busch was at William Head serving time for second-degree murder and assault.

Armitage, 30, was sentenced in November to another year behind bars on top of his current sentence of 13-years and 10-months for robbery, aggravated assault and other offences.
