B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has confirmed the second northbound lane on the Trans-Canada Highway through the Malahat Village is set to be open over the Victoria Day long weekend.

According to the ministry, line painting will be done overnight Tuesday and if all goes according to plan, the additional lane will reopen on Wednesday. It will stay open through to Tuesday. The contractor will not be working from Friday morning until Tuesday night.

The ministry also said over the remainder of the summer, the second northbound lane will be open Friday afternoons through Sunday evenings on non-holiday weekends. During the long weekends, there will be two northbound lanes and one southbound lane open from Friday afternoons through Monday evenings.

Drivers should still expect delays of up to 20 minutes and intermittent stoppages outside of peak periods while construction is ongoing. Police will be enforcing construction speed zones so drivers are reminded to obey the posted speed limit of 60 kilometres an hour at all times.
