Searchers are trying to find a missing 40-year-old Ahousaht man around Bartlett Island.

The search for Travis Thomas is being carried out on the ground and water.

Ahousaht Emergency Operations Co-ordinator Alec Dick said approximately 70 to 80 people are involved in the search, including 16 who are looking on the island. An RCMP dog will also be searching the area. Twenty-four boats are involved in the search.

“It is at this time, we acknowledge the strong, tireless volunteers of Ahousaht, Hesquiaht and Tla-o-qui-aht and the RCMP,” the Ahousaht Emergency Response Team said in a statement.

“We believe in hope. We believe in our Creator and we will not quit.”

The search comes less than a month after another member of the community went missing while out fishing in the same area. That man, Richard Amos, has still not been found.

Thomas is described as slim with an atheltic build. He is well-known in the community as a basketball player and runner. No other details about Thomas or the search were immediately available.
