Ahousaht RCMP are still searching for 23-year-old man who was last seen in his canoe with his fishing gear on July 22.

Police said Richard Amos was reportedly heading toward Catface Mountain, east of Ahousaht (Flores Island) to go fishing at around 11 a.m. Sunday.

When he didn’t return from his trip, a large-scale water and shore search was launched by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Center (JRCC), with assistance from RCMP, West Coast Marine Services, Coast Guard, both the Ahousaht and West Coast Inland Search and Rescue Teams and community members. On July 23, JRCC said Ahousaht Emergency Operations Centre EOC would continue the search with local vessels and Ground SAR teams.

Amos’ canoe and a single red shoe were found late in the day on July 22 at the Shot Islets.

The search for Amos continued Friday. Amos is described by police as Caucasian, 5’6″ (168 centimetres) 141 pounds (64 kilograms) with brown hair. He was seen wearing black shorts, a black T-shirt and red shoes.

Ahousaht RCMP is asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to call them at 250-670-9612.
