Police and search and rescue crews are searching for a missing man with health conditions in Black Creek.

David Pineo, 72, was reported missing in the evening on Aug. 21 after his mobility scooter was found without him, according to Comox Valley RCMP. They say his scooter was found in the Macauley Road area near the Oyster River.

Comox Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) along with Campbell River and Arrowsmith Search and Rescue and RCMP air and K9 search crews have been searching the large area near the Oyster River, but haven’t been able to locate Pineo so far, according to CVSAR search manager Paul Berry.

“The area is covering everywhere between the old highway 19A and the new highway, wilderness area, logging roads rural residences right in and around that area where his scooter was located,” said Berry. “The fellow has resided in the area for about the past three years, well known and certainly has mobility challenges as a result of his illness and this is very uncharacteristic for him.”

Berry says that if anyone finds Pineo to approach him quietly as previous health conditions have left him unable to communicate verbally.

“They would want to approach and ask if they can help him,” said Berry. “Because of previous health issues, he’s unable to communicate verbally. So they want to approach him quietly and be very patient, trying to understand what he is telling them.”

Comox Valley RCMP ask if anyone knows or sees David Pineo call 250-338-1321 or call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
