Island Health has added two Vancouver Island schools to the COVID-19 exposure list on Thursday.

One school is located in Victoria while the other is located in Nanaimo.

According to the health authority, exposures have been reported at Victoria West Elementary and Cedar Elementary School.

The reported exposure at Victoria West Elementary – located at 750 Front St. in Victoria– occurred on Mar. 2, 3 and 4.

And the reported exposure at Cedar Elementary School – located at 2215 Gould Rd. in Nanaimo – occurred on Mar. 8 and 10.

According to Island Health, exposure is defined as a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.

Along with these two facilities, Island Health has reported possible exposures at 10 other facilities on Vancouver Island. A full list of active exposures can be found here.

Island Health notes that if a parent or guardian sees a notification on the health authority’s school exposure site, it does not necessarily mean their child has been exposed to COVID-19.

Island Health outlines that Public Health members work with the school and school district to ensure close contacts are notified directly and provided specific guidance.

If a parent or guardian does not receive a phone call or letter from Public Health, a child can continue to attend school, Island Health notes.
