A school in Victoria and one in Nanaimo have been added to Island Health’s coronavirus exposure list after cases were detected in each facility.

The affected schools are Pacific Christian Elementary School in Victoria and Quam Qwum Elementary in Nanaimo.

The listed date of exposure at Pacific Christian Elementary is April 12, while possible exposures at Quam Qwum happened April 13, 14 and 15.

Public Health will work directly with schools to identify those who many have been exposed to the virus, and contact tracing will be performed in each case.

“Those identified as cases and close contacts will be instructed to self-isolate directly by our Public Health teams,” Island Health says on its exposure page.

Those not contacted by Public Health can be assured their child didn’t have a high-risk exposure and can continue to attend school, according to Island Health.

An exposure is defined by Island Health as a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.
