Schools in Greater Victoria, Cowichan Valley added to Island Health's COVID-19 exposure list

Drinkwater Elementary School in Duncan has been added to Island Health's COVID-19 exposure list.

Students and staff at schools in Saanich and a school in the Cowichan Valley are being warned of possible exposure to the novel coronavirus.

Island Health has added Frank Hobbs Elementary School, Colquitz Middle School and Drinkwater Elementary School to its COVID-19 exposure list.

Frank Hobbs Elementary School — located on Haro Road in Saanich — experienced an exposure on April 7.

Colquitz Middle School — located on Dumeresq Street in Saanich — experienced a COVID-19 exposure on April 6.

Drinkwater Elementary School — located on Lane Road in Duncan — experienced COVID-19 exposures on April 6, 7 and 8.

An exposure is defined by Island Health as a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.

The update comes after a handful of Greater Victoria schools were added to Island Health’s exposure list in recent days including Victoria High School, Arbutus Global Middle School and Mount Douglas Secondary School.

Island Health has warned students, parents and staff to expect rising school exposures in the coming weeks due to a surge in COVID-19 cases over spring break.
