Island Health, in the last 12 hours, added Cowichan Valley Open Learning and Departure Bay Elementary to their COVID-19 exposure list.

A couple of schools in the mid-Island area have experienced novel coronavirus exposures.

Island Health, in the last 12 hours, added Cowichan Valley Open Learning and Departure Bay Elementary to their COVID-19 exposure list.

Cowichan Valley Open Learning — located on Nagle Street in Duncan — experienced an exposure on April 21 and 22.

Departure Bay Elementary — located on Departure Bay Road in Nanaimo — experienced an exposure on April 21.

An exposure is defined by Island Health as a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.

Island Health child can continue to attend school if a parent or guardian does not receive a phone call or letter from public health.

Should a parent or guardian see a notification on Island Health’s school exposure site, it does not necessarily mean their child has been exposed to COVID-19.

There are now 16 schools on Island Health’s school exposure list. Schools are removed from the list 14 days after the last exposure date.
