A school in Saanichton has been added to Island Health’s COVID-19 exposure list.

According to a notice on Island Health’s website, Stelly’s Secondary School experienced a COVID-19 exposure event on Feb. 1.

An exposure is defined as a single person with lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.

School exposures on Vancouver Island have been on the rise in recent weeks, with more than a dozen schools currently on Island Health’s list.

Yesterday, the provincial government announced new rules around masks in schools. Middle and high school students in B.C. are now required to wear non-medical masks inside a school and in their learning groups. However, masks will not have to be worn when students are sitting at a desk or workstations, when there is a barrier in place, or when eating or drinking.

Stelly’s Secondary School is located on Stelly’s Cross Road.
