Saanich police are on the hunt for a robbery suspect who is considered armed and dangerous.

Just after 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 24, Saanich police were called to a possible fight near Quadra Street and McKenzie Avenue. While officers were going to the area, they were told a weapon might have been involved in the fight.

Once officers were at the scene of the fight, they learned that a London Drugs loss prevention officer had stopped a man outside the Saanich Centre for shoplifting. After he was stopped, the suspect allegedly brandished a black handgun and fled from the loss prevention officer.

Police said the suspect left southbound on the Lochside Regional Trail and then allegedly robbed someone of their black Miele electric bike.

According to the Greater Victoria School District, due to the incident, Reynolds secondary was placed in hold-and-secure mode following a recommendation from the Saanich police. It was lifted just after the 2 p.m. scheduled dismissal.

Saanich police said they have obtained video surveillance footage of the suspect. They have identified the man as 37-year-old Michael Godolphin. He is described by police as a white man, 5’7,” 175 pounds, with a shaved head. He has a teardrop tattoo near his right eye and a written tattoo that encircles the back sides of his neck. He was last seen wearing black Adidas straight leg pants with three white vertical stripes down the side, a black T-shirt and a black hooded jacket with white writing on the chest.

Police said Godolphin can be arrested for robbery with a firearm. He also has warrants for his arrest for other criminal code offences.

Godolphin is considered armed and dangerous, police said. Anyone who sees him should not approach him and should call 911 immediately.

On Wednesday, Nanaimo RCMP confirmed they received at least two reports that Godolphin was in Nanaimo and has been seen on a black electric bike. They followed up on the reports but were not able to locate him.
