One person was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries late Thursday after a single-vehicle crash involving a taxi in Saanich.

A Saanich Police watch commander said early Friday morning the driver was not the owner of the cab.

Authorities say it appears speed and alcohol are possible factors in the incident that took place sometime around 11:20 p.m. in the 500-block of Burnside Road, at Interurban Road.

One person was seen by a witness lying on the road being attended to by emergency crews.

Police say the taxi cab from Victoria was heavily damaged and towed.

Saanich Police traffic members were on the scene investigating.

Police say two damaged trees also had to be removed.

The investigation continues.
