The Saanich Police are investigating into what officers are calling an “unprovoked assault” that took place in Cadboro Bay on Monday night.

At around 10:20 p.m. on July 20, police said a “shocking” incident took place at Gyro Beach, where they are seeking help from the public.

In a police report, Saanich Police said that a woman was sitting on the beach when an unknown man walked up to her.

The man allegedly punched her in the face and then ran off toward Telegraph Bay Road.

Police are describing the man as wearing a dark coloured sweater, blue jeans and running shoes.

“It was dark out and the incident happened very quickly. It was shocking to learn that this assault was unprovoked, and we’re working every angle to identify the suspect and then determine what the motive was,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades with SaanichPD.

Police say that they are currently investigating the alleged unprovoked assault, but are asking anyone who may have been in the area to contact them.

Saanich Police are also asking any residents in the area of Tudor Avenue and Telegraph Bay Road to review their home CCTV footage for any possible leads.

Anyone with information can contact the police directly at 250-475-4321 or submit anonymously through Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
