A party host in Saanich has been hit with a hefty fine.

According to a media release issued by the Saanich Police Department, officers responded to a home in the Gordon Head area at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night and witnessed between 10 and 15 people partying on a deck.

Once the partiers noticed the officers, they began fleeing the home, the release notes.

Officers eventually made contact with the host, who police say, denied a party had even taken place at the home.

“The host was likely unaware that police had arrived and witnessed the party long before they all scattered out the back door,” Const. Markus Anastasiades said in a press release.

The host was issued a $2,300 violation ticket under the province’s Emergency Programs Act for organizing or hosting a non-compliant event.

The Emergency Programs Act came into effect Jan. 8, replacing the COVID-19 Related Measures Act.
