A Saanich driver was arrested by an Integrated Canine Officer (ICS) Sunday afternoon after failing to stop for police regarding a driving infraction.

On  Sunday at approximately 2:30 p.m., a Saanich Police officer tried to stop a vehicle in the 100-block of Burnside Road West after noticing a Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) violation.

The driver, however, had other plans and did not stop as directed and fled, speeding and driving “without due care and attention” through the busy intersection of Tillicum Road, according to police.

After it was clear the vehicle was not going to stop, the officer did not give chase. Additionally, the officer had noted the details of the car and believed they also knew the identity of the driver.

An ICS officer was in the area and heard the police radio broadcast regarding this suspect’s vehicle.

Within minutes, the officer found the vehicle in a parking lot on Gorge Road East in Victoria and the driver was arrested.

A subsequent search revealed drugs packaged for sale and other drug paraphernalia that led officers to believe the driver was trafficking drugs.

The Saanich driver was also in breach of court-imposed conditions. The driver, who was well known to police, was charged and later released with a court date. The investigation is on-going.
