Saanich police are asking the public for help, as they investigate three fires they say were set deliberately last week.

Officials responded to the fires over Friday night and Saturday morning.  The first was set next to Staples on Tolmie Avenue around 9 p.m.

A chair had been lit on fire between the building and a row of bushes, luckily Anna-Theresa Bates and her husband spotted the blaze early on and alerted employees who extinguished it quickly.

The second and third fires were set in dumpsters just before 4 a.m. Saturday.

One was behind Save-on-Foods on Blanshard Street and the other across the street at 894 Vernon Avenue.

Both fires were put out by Saanich Fire and resulted in damage to the dumpsters — but not to any of the surrounding area.

Anyone with information on who may have set the fires is asked to contact the Saanich Police at 250-475-4321 or to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
