Port Alberni RCMP officer passes away in sudden off-duty death

The RCMP says they are dealing with the sudden and unexpected off-duty death of one of their officers from the Port Alberni detachment.

RCMP’s E Division says additional resources and support services have been brought in to help during the difficult time.

Some have taken to social media sharing their condolences.

“We are thankful for all the support, but we ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this time,” said Sgt. Janelle Shoihet, media relations officer with E Division Communication Services.

Police say they are working with their family with respect to a service and have no additional comments or information to provide.
