A driver with an apparent need for speed is planning to dispute a traffic ticket after he was caught going 98 km/hour over the speed limit in Saanich.
At around 2 a.m. Saturday morning, Saanich Police Safety Unit officers clocked a Mercedes coupe travelling 178 km/hour on the Patricia Bay Highway near McKenzie Avenue, where the limit is 80 km/hour.
According to Saanich PD, the driver asked the officer for a ‘break’ and said that this speed ‘wasn’t fast when they were a kid’.
The officer ticketed the man anyway and the car was impounded for seven days, but the driver says he plans on disputing the $483 ticket.
