Victoria Royals’ forward Matt Phillips got in on the scoring parade for Team WHL in the opening game of the CIBC Canada Russia Series.

In a 7-0 romp over Russia in Moose Jaw Monday, Phillips had a goal and finished with a plus-3 rating.

Phillips is back on the ice Tuesday for the second game of the series in Swift Current, SK.

The Calgary Flames’ prospect is among players from the WHL, Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in the identification process by Hockey Canada to help determine a Canadian squad for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

The Royals’ forward who scored 50 goals last season also took part in Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Development Camp.

The 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship is in Buffalo, NY from December 26, 2017, to January 5, 2018.
