The Victoria Royals split their weekend series after a 6-4 loss to the Kelowna Rockets Saturday night.

The Royals were fighting early on with a slashing penalty from Wyatt Wilson and with seconds remaining, Tyson Feist snuck one through Royals goaltender Tyler Palmer to give the Rockets an early lead.

Royals’ Brayden Schuurman was able to tie the game heading into the second period before more penalties allowed the Rockets to gain a 2-1 lead over the Royals.

Penalties from both teams throughout the second period left the Royals chasing the Rockets 5-3 heading into the third.

Brayden Shuurman was able to score for Royals once again on a powerplay making the game 5-4 in the third period. With one minute left in the third, the Royals pulled their goaltender and went on the powerplay.

However, despite the two-man advantage the Rockets scored on the empty net, making the final score 6-4.

The Victoria Royals split their two-game series with one win and one loss. They will take on the Kamloops Blazers Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
