Victoria-based MarineLabs gained international attention earlier this year after their media release about recording the world’s most extreme rogue wave, at four storeys high, went viral.

MarineLabs is a coastal intelligence company and real-time data provider, transforming marine safety, and building climate-resilient coastlines. Founded in 2017, they’re a B.C.-based company offering the world’s highest resolution real-time wind, wave, and weather data, as well as AI-driven insights from fleets of cloud-connected, rugged instruments.

This data optimizes port and vessel operations, and long-term data insights help communities prepare and adapt for coastal flooding and other hazards due to climate change driven weather volatility.

MarineLabs recently contributed to conversations on the role that data played in providing accurate insights into the strength and trajectory of Hurricane Fiona. Through rugged instruments placed along U.S. and Canadian coastlines, data was processed and stored.

In this episode, Beatty talks about how their work is so important in helping mitigate the effects of climate change and how that work got them to be a finalist for the 2022 BC CleanTech Award.

Road to Recovery is produced in partnership with Douglas Magazine.
