In the dwindling hours of Sunday night, various parts of Vancouver Island witnessed a summer lightning storm that illuminated the skies.

On Sunday night, various parts of Vancouver Island experienced an incredible summer lightning storm.

Residents in areas such as Sooke, Nanaimo, Mill Bay and some of the Southern Gulf Islands witnessed massive fork lightning that filled the sky and illuminated the surroundings.

The storm occurred in the hours leading up to midnight on Sunday night and several Vancouver Islanders managed to find vantage points where they could view the action.

One resident who reached out to CHEK News following the storm called it “amazing!” Another CHEK viewer used the term “epic” to describe their viewing experience.

While some just sat back and took in the beauty of the natural light show, others were able to grab their cameras and capture the moment.

Below are a collection of images taken by residents of Sunday night’s lightning storm over Vancouver Island.
