West Shore RCMP says officers arrested a suspect in Langford after he had an encounter with a citizen in Metchosin while in a stolen vehicle.

The incident happened Feb. 27 when police got a call of a male suspect in a Dodge Ram pickup truck who was seen dumping items on a dirt road near the 1500-block of Neild Road in Metchosin.

RCMP says the complainant called the police and used their own vehicle to block the road and prevent the truck from leaving.

The suspect reloaded the items back into the truck then rammed the complainant’s vehicle in an attempt to get away.

The suspect then ran on foot before police arrived at the scene and was not located, but officers determined the truck was reported stolen out of Colwood Feb. 19.

Police say they complainant got a picture of the suspect, which helped identify the 37-year-old male.

He was arrested Wednesday near the intersection of Goldspur Road and Latoria Road in Langford.

West Shore RCMP is thanking the resident who first encountered the suspect.

That person was uninjured but their vehicle was damaged from the ramming.

Police say situations like this case are unpredictable and can become dangerous and they do not recommend blocking in suspects.
