Lands End Café at Swartz Bay is back open.

Lands End Café is back in business.

The café at the Swartz Bay ferry terminal has reopened following a three-month renovation, according to BC Ferries in a release.

It says the makeover has “transformed the Lands End Café into a modern-style café designed to enhance the customer experience for the over 3.5 million people who depart through the terminal each year.”

Ferries departing Swartz Bay in Greater Victoria sail to places like Salt Spring, Pender and Galiano islands, and Tsawwassen near Vancouver.

The company says the upgrades include new ovens and coffee machines, as well as a service counter with digital boards displaying the café’s new menu.

When the café was closed, a pop-up shop operated in its place.

“The last major renovation to the Lands End Café was almost 20 years ago in 2004, and a refresh was in order,” BC Ferries said, adding that in the past year, the café saw nearly $2 million in sales, including more than 125,000 cups of coffee.

And while this eatery has reopened, another one has closed for good.

On June 6, BC Ferries announced the Pacific Buffet on Spirit ferries wouldn’t be reopening due to the increased cost of food and labour. The buffet first shuttered in March 2020, and the company is now seeking input on next steps via a survey.
