RCMP say they are on the hunt for a suspicious elderly male motorist who allegedly attempted to lure a young girl in Crofton.

According to the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, a 10-year-old girl was approached by a male driver in a blue older model sedan at around 4 p.m. on April 13 at the corner of Chaplin and Elizabeth streets in Crofton.

RCMP say the elderly male rolled up and told the girl he was there to pick her up on behalf of her mother. Fortunately, the girl had the good sense to run away and reported the incident to an adult.

In a second alleged incident, a 14-year-old girl was in the area of Queen and Brook streets at around 12:30 p.m. on April 15 when an elderly male driving a blue older model sedan saw her and did a U-turn in her direction.

RCMP says in that incident, there was no contact made between the male and the teen girl.

The suspect is described as an elderly Caucasian man, possibly wearing dark or black clothing and a ball cap.

Const. Kristine Roesler of the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, said officers are asking anyone who may have had a similar encounter to contact them immediately.

“Investigators are requesting assistance from the public to report any previous of future suspicious incidents of a similar nature,” Roesler said in a news release.

RCMP are also asking anyone in the Crofton area who has video on April 13 or 15 which shows a blue older model sedan in the area to contact them at 250-748-5522.
