Mounties are asking the public to help them locate a missing 46-year-old man who hasn’t been seen in almost six months.

Nathan Zuk, 46, was last seen leaving his mother’s Cortes Island residence in a 14-foot skiff rowboat in mid-December, according to the Quadra Island RCMP.

It is believed that Zuk headed to an unknown location near the Pryce Channel, Deer passage, or Toba Inlet.

Police say Zuk was formally reported missing to them on May 2 and attempts to locate him between May 5 and May 10 have been unsuccessful. They also say they received information that a person and vessel matching Zuk’s description was reportedly spotted about three weeks ago in the Toba Inlet.

He has backcountry experience and left with supplies to last several months but always returned when he said he would. This time he was due to return to Cortes Island on or about May 1.

“So it’s not so much that he might have run out of rations or anything to that effect. Our concern would be that some sort of outside force has enabled him from coming home,” said Corpora Chris Voller of the Quadra Island RCMP.

“Police are asking anyone who may frequent the inlet and island within [Toba Inlet] area to be aware of their surroundings and call police with any observations that may be of assistance to the investigation,” said Cpl. Madonna Saunderson of the RCMP in a press release.

Zuk is described as a six-foot-two, 181 pounds, medium-build male with hazel eyes and brown wavy hair. He reportedly has some medical issues and police say they along with his family are concerned for his well-being.

Anyone with information regarding Zuk’s whereabouts is urged to call Quadra Island RCMP at 250-285-3631 immediately.
