Police have released surveillance video with images of two persons of interest.

RCMP have released a video of two persons of interest in the Christmas Eve double homicide in Duncan.

On Friday, the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) said major crime investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two unknown persons of interest seen in a surveillance video walking side by side down a sidewalk.

Just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 24, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were called to a reported assault near Trunk Road and Canada Avenue in Duncan. Officers found a man and a woman, both injured. The two were taken to a local hospital. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital right after the assault and the woman died in hospital on Dec. 28.

Police have said that early indications point to a targeted attack and the investigative team are pursuing several leads, including two male persons of interest.

Friends identified the man and woman as Fran Shurie and Nellie Williams. The couple had four children together.

“We have reason to believe there may have been at least one other altercation on Christmas Eve in the area of Trunk Road and Duncan Street involving the two persons of interest and an unknown person or people,” Sgt. Trevor Busch said in a statement on Friday.

“We strongly urge those people to come forward immediately as they may have vital information to our ongoing investigation.”

The first person of interest is described by police as possibly a Caucasian man, seen wearing a black or dark coloured hoodie with a logo on the left chest and a horizontal pattern on the right arm, a pair of dark coloured pants with a horizontal pattern on the legs, and a pair of dark coloured or black shoes.

The second person of interest as a man, wearing a black or dark coloured hoodie, a pair of dark pants with a thick, white, vertical stripe on the leg, and a pair of dark shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit information line at 250-380-6211. Police said they are particularly interested in speaking with people who were in the area of Trunk Road and Duncan Street or Canada Avenue between 10:30 and 11 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2019, including those who may have dashcam footage or other video surveillance.
