Investigators in the Cowichan Valley are looking for clues in a Monday morning assault that left a man dead.

Mounties from North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were called for several reports of an assault with a weapon near Cowichan Lake Road, RCMP said in a news release.

Arriving officers found two men in front of a home, according to RCMP. While one man surrendered immediately, the other was found with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead in hospital. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

The man who surrendered remains in custody and police are now looking for witnesses.

While the investigation is in the preliminary stages, police believe this was an isolated incident and there is no on-going risk to the general public, Staff-Sgt. Chris Swain said in a press release.

The BC Coroners Service is also investigating the circumstances leading up to the man’s death.

The man’s identity is not being released.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 250-748-5522.
