Campbell River RCMP officers are investigating an incident that involved an alleged assault with a baseball bat near Simms Creek Road and Island Hwy.

RCMP said the incident took place at around 9:11 pm on Saturday, October 3rd.

According to a police report, homeowners in the area had caught two people checking out their yard, while also trying to gain access to their vehicle.

The homeowners state that they decided to confront the two suspects and a physical altercation ensued.

It was reported to police that a bat was allegedly taken from one of the homeowners and was used to strike her.

Police said they were able to track two 19-year-old males nearby and patrol officers arrested them following the incident. The two alleged attackers are due to attend court at a later date.

The homeowner sustained a serious, but non-life-threatening injury.

It is believed that intoxicants played a large role in this occurrence, said Cst. Maury Tyre.

Although we know people’s first instincts are to protect their property, we need to remind citizens there are significant risks involved in confronting some people. In this case, unfortunately, the situation turned violent and the homeowner was injured.
