RCMP find loaded firearm inside stolen truck that crashed near Qualicum Beach, seek occupants who fled scene

Oceanside RCMP is seeking the occupants of a stolen truck who fled the scene of a single-vehicle crash near Qualicum Beach on Sunday.

The crash took place at approximately 5 p.m. on March 14 along Highway 19, near Horne Lake Road. Witnesses reported that the stolen vehicle — travelling northbound — crossed over the centre median on the highway and ended up on its roof in the southbound lane.

Witnesses reported to Oceanside RCMP officers that, following the collision, a man and a woman got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on a green dirt bike that had been in the rear compartment of the truck.

Both individuals appeared injured from the crash.

Police say that the green dirt bike was last seen travelling on Highway 19 and onto a trail system.

The dirt bike was later found to have crashed near the Inland Highway West.

According to Oceanside RCMP, significant patrols were deployed in the area, including assistance from the Vancouver Island Police Dog Service, however, the man and woman were not located.

The fact that we have taken a gun off the street is good news, however the fact that these two were allegedly in possession of it, makes it important now to identify them, states Sgt. Stephen Rose of the Oceanside RCMP. We are asking anyone with information about the driver or passenger, or was a witness and has not already spoke to us, to please call the Oceanside Detachment.
