WatchThe RCMP is investigating Campbell River's first homicide of 2019 after responding to a report of shots fired in the Ocean Grove area of the city at 2:30 Wednesday morning.

Campbell River RCMP say the shooting death of a man in the Ocean Grove area of the city is considered suspicious.

The man’s body was found beside a truck on Vermont Place at around 2:30 a.m. Police were responding to reports of shots fired.

Neighbours told CHEK it was a windy night so they didn’t think too much of any noises. One woman in the area said her husband heard shots, possibly three of them, making a “pop, pop, pop” sound.

RCMP say the Campbell River Major Crimes Unit is on scene, as well as Forensics Units and Police Dog Services. BC Coroners Service has also been at the scene.

“We are asking that the general public refrain from travelling in the general area to allow police the space they need to conduct their investigation,” said Cst Maury Tyre.

Police said there is no suspect information at this time but they do not believe the public is at risk.
