RCMP say they discovered two guns and two swords after a vehicle crashed into the front lawn of a Nanaimo home on Thursday.

Nanaimo RCMP received a call at about 1 p.m. about a vehicle that had driven through the fence of a home on the 3400 block of Hammond Bay Road.

When police arrived, they found the vehicle stuck in the front yard and saw the driver throwing a firearm out of the vehicle onto the lawn.

The driver, in his mid-40s, was the only person in the vehicle. After a brief struggle, he was arrested and taken into police custody.

Nanaimo RCMP searched the front yard and found a 38 revolver handgun and pellet gun.  Those weren’t the only weapons though, two short ornamental swords were also found in the vehicle.

Police say the man was experiencing a significant mental health crisis and was taken to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for further assessment.
