RCMP arrest suspect and seize firearms following standoff in Langford on Tuesday

A 50-year old man was taken into custody after a lengthy standoff with police in Langford on Tuesday.

RCMP say they received a report around 5 p.m. that a man was armed and had barricaded himself inside a housing complex on Station Avenue near Peatt Road.

Officers immediately blocked off surrounding streets and evacuated residences in the area.

RCMP say a firearm was discharged from inside the suspect’s residence.

The Island District Emergency Response Team along with RCMP Negotiators were called in.

RCMP report that the suspect was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m.

No one was injured.

“Officers executed a search warrant for the residence where ammunition and firearms were seized,” said Staff Sergeant Raj Sandhu, Acting Officer in Charge of West Shore RCMP.

The investigation is still on going, charges are expected to be put forward.

The RCMP offered thanks to the Royal Canadian Legion (Langford Branch) who opened their doors to those who were displaced.
