A 36-year-old Colwood man was arrested after he fled the scene of a crash in the Cowichan Valley.

First responders, including members of the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, responded to a multi-vehicle crash that happened sometime around 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the intersection of Green Road and Trans-Canada Highway, near Canadian Tire.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway and involved BMW 7-series sedan and Chevrolet Trax crossover.

BC RCMP Sgt. Chris Manseau told CHEK News that the driver of the Chevrolet was taken to hospital with injuries while the driver of the BMW, a 36-year-old man from Colwood, ran away from the scene.

“He fled on foot towards the BC Forest Discovery Centre,” said Manseau.

Manseau said there were plenty of witnesses nearby and that some of them followed the man, who was arrested nearby a little while later.

The crash caused northbound traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway to be backed up for hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
