RCMP has arrested a 16-year-old in connection with the murder of Clifton Johnston, which occurred in Port Alberni in March 2021.

The incident took place on March 27, 2021, at the Port Alberni Friendship Center in the 3500-block of Fourth Avenue in Port Alberni.

RCMP found the deceased Johnston on the sidewalk outside of the facility and say that he was stabbed in the chest.

According to RCMP, on January 19, 2022, a charge of 2nd-degree murder was sworn against a 16-year-old male for the murder of Johnston, which resulted in an arrest warrant being issued.

One day later, Port Alberni RCMP arrested the 16-year-old, whose identity cannot be provided due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Investigators have been working on this investigation continuously for nearly 10 months, awaiting Forensic Laboratory results and completing the significant disclosure these investigations require for charge approval, RCMP said in a release on Tuesday.

The Officer in Charge of Port Alberni Detachment, Inspector Eric Rochette commented, This result couldn’t have been achieved without the hard work and dedication of the Port Alberni General Investigations Section, Forensic Identification Section, Crime Reduction Unit, other supporting investigators and the community.

The investigation is still ongoing.
