The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is recalling various raspberry mousse cakes that may be contaminated with norovirus.
According to the agency, the products have been distributed in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador. The notice also said the products may have been distributed nationally.
The recalled cakes are from the brands Jessica, Laura Secord, Michaud and Top Dessert, as well as three non-branded varieties of raspberry mousse, chocolate raspberry mousse cake and raspberry dream cake. The products may have been sold frozen or refrigerated, or clerk-served from bakery-pastry counters with or without a label or coding.
The recall came after a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak.
The agency said consumers should not buy the cakes at retailers or eat the cakes at any hotels, restaurants or other establishments. Retailers, hotels, restaurants and other establishments should not sell or serve the products and should check the labels or raspberry mousse cakes or check with suppliers to see if they have the affected product.
Anyone who has a recalled product should throw them out or return them to the store where they bought them.
People with norovirus illness usually develop symptoms of gastroenteritis within 24 to 48 hours. The illness often begins suddenly and the main symptoms are diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach cramps.
