More rain is expected to drench Vancouver Island Thursday, prompting extended rainfall warnings.

Greater Victoria is expecting an additional 20-30 millimetres, doubling the amount that’s fallen since Wednesday. The East, West and interior regions of the island are expecting 50-100 additional millimetres of rain by later this afternoon.

The East Island is also under a wind warning with strong winds picking up as the intense Pacific frontal system hangs over the region. Winds of up to 70 km/h are expected to persist until midday.

Environment Canada is warning that flooding in low lying areas, including roads, may be possible.

The front is expected to start shifting in the evening, with the intense showers forecasted to taper off after dark.
