Environment Canada says as much as 150 mm of rain is expected to fall by Monday evening in western Vancouver Island.

It has been sunny the last few days for many parts of Vancouver Island, but make no mistake about it, rain is on the way.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the entire west coast of Vancouver Island, excluding Port Alberni, stating that between 120 to 150 mm of rainfall is expected beginning Sunday evening due to an “intense frontal” system.

“The heavy rain will ease Monday evening. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” the weather agency said in a statement. For perspective, Victoria’s total rainfall for the entire month of November was 150 mm.

Furthermore, Environment Canada has also issued a special weather statement for northern Vancouver Island, stating that 100 mm of rainfall is expected to fall in the region by Tuesday morning.
