Heavy rain is expected on west Vancouver Island on Wednesday.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for west Vancouver Island ahead of a “vigorous frontal” that is set to arrive on the South Coast on Wednesday and bring heavy rain to the western part of the island.

The weather agency said rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres is forecast through the region through Wednesday night and will ease to showers on Thursday. It is reminding the public that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Other areas of the province are under wind, winter storm or snowfall warnings.
