WATCH: A man is recovering from injuries Sunday night after he drove off the old Island highway north of Qualicum Beach.

It happened before 11 p.m. this morning.

A Deep Bay man was heading northbound on the old Island highway when he drove off the road about two kilometres north of the Cook Creek bridge.

His truck went through some brush in the ditch until it struck a tree.

The driver of the car in front of him saw what happened.

“And while just coming up to the corner I happened to look in the rear mirror and I saw his rear end disappear into the ditch,” said Phillip Wroe. “I went down and had a look. [I] couldn’t do anything meanwhile my wife phoned 911.”

BC Ambulance took the man to the hospital. He was speaking and was able to get out of the truck.

The RCMP”s Central Island Traffic Services is investigating why the crash happened.
