A special investigative unit of the Victoria Police Department says property crime is seeing a sharp increase in both Victoria and Esquimalt.

“Since the week of March 15-21st, VicPD has seen a 25 per cent increase in property crime related calls for service,” said Victoria Police in a release.

In that same time period, calls for service to the police department have also increased, around 22 per cent.

In a raid just this Tuesday March 14, Victoria Police Department’s special ‘Strike Force’ seized $30,000 worth of stolen property from a ‘prolific offender’.

With a warrant, police searched a male suspect’s storage container on the 3900-block of Quadra Street, and found a variety of power tools, liquor, and other items.

“Many of the recovered items are traceable, and some still have their anti-theft tags attached,” said Victoria Police.

Police will be working over the coming days to return the property to its rightful owners.
