An 18-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after an incident that saw hot coffee allegedly poured directly into the eyes of a dog in Port Renfrew.

Sooke RCMP says the incident happened around 10:30 a.m. and there is no evidence of an altercation between the suspect and the dog, or with the dog’s owner.

Police say there are two or three witnesses that saw the alleged attack and the suspect is charged with animal cruelty.

The dog, a Husky-German Shepherd cross, did not require veterinary treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

Sooke RCMP says the man arrested has been released on a promise to appear in court, scheduled for September.

Police say the man arrested is a resident of Port Renfrew.
