Volunteers are needed for a new advisory committee in Port McNeill.

The Town of Port McNeill council has created a brand new parks and recreation advisory committee and is now seeking nine volunteers from the community to join it.

The advisory committee’s main objective will be to develop a parks and recreation strategy that is consistent with the municipality’s official community plan. The committee will also advise on projects, policies, bylaws, provide website input, consult with stakeholders and help coordinate new initiatives.

Although volunteers are not required to have previous committee experience, the Town of Port McNeill says that ideally, applicants should have an interest in parks and recreation.

“While no experience is required, except gumption and community spirit, some knowledge of parks and recreation or previous committee involvement would be an asset,” the municipality said in a release on its website.

The deadline to apply is July 4.

Applications, which can be downloaded here, must be sent to [email protected] by the deadline.
