Port Hardy's Paul Willie is $588,376.64 richer after winning at online slots, according to the BC Lottery Corporation.

A Port Hardy man is celebrating his six-figure lotto win.

Paul Willie was travelling from the North Island and spending the night in Nanaimo when he decided to try his luck at playing online slots, the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) said Thursday.

When the game, MegaJackpots Wolf Run, triggered a jackpot win for Willie, he couldn’t believe it — especially after realizing he was $588,376.64 richer.

“I wasn’t quite sure what to think. I pressed the screen off and on again,” Willie told the BCLC. “I thought it was a hoax!”

Once the win was verified at PlayNow.com, Willie, who plans to buy a new vehicle with the cash, says he reached out to his family to share the unexpected success.

“I was most excited to share the news with my children,” he added.
